Officials Code of Conduct
Marietta Sports League
Officials play a vital role in creating a safe, fair, and Christ-centered environment. By serving as an umpire or referee, you agree to uphold the following standards:
1. Christ-Centered Character
Model Christian values through respectful words, actions, and attitude.
Support the faith-based mission of the program.
Refrain from profanity, inappropriate language, or unsportsmanlike behavior.
2. Integrity & Fairness
Officiate impartially and apply rules consistently.
Avoid favoritism or conflicts of interest.
Accept responsibility for decisions and correct mistakes when appropriate.
3. Professionalism
Arrive on time, prepared, and properly attired.
Maintain composure and focus during games.
Communicate clearly and respectfully with all participants.
Follow all league rules, policies, and procedures.
4. Respect & Communication
Handle disagreements calmly and professionally.
Never engage in arguments with players, coaches, parents, or spectators.
Use de-escalation strategies and seek leadership support when needed.
5. Safety & Youth Protection
Prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants.
Enforce rules designed to prevent injury.
Maintain appropriate boundaries with athletes, especially minors.
Report injuries, unsafe conditions, or misconduct promptly.
6. Accountability
Be open to feedback and continued training.
Communicate availability and scheduling issues promptly.
Understand that failure to follow this Code may result in corrective action or removal.
Commitment
Officials are role models and servants of the mission. Competition should honor God, build character, and promote sportsmanship.
